A recent email sent to us from Councillor Alan Morris after he visited our school to celebrate our 25th birthday!
‘Dear Mrs Bevan
Please pass on my deep respect and thanks to the Staff and Children at your school for the magnificent way they celebrated the Silver anniversary of the schools opening along with the dedication of a memorial plaque to my former friend and colleague Councillor Ron Jones. Can I also thank you for affording me the opportunity of saying a few words in tribute to Ron.
As you know Ron was fiercely proud of the area he represented and without a doubt in Ron’s mind the jewel in the crown of Pillgwenlly was Pillgwenlly school. I now fully understand why he thought that way. I entered the school on Thursday fearing that I would be unable to speak without becoming emotional particularly with Ron’s partner Pam sat in front of me. I came away from the celebrations feeling uplifted by the sheer joy that exudes from each and every child who performed. You, your staff and the children lucky enough to attend Pillgwenlly school did Ron and Pam proud. The whole event was a wonderful tribute to his memory.
It was an honour and privilege to be present
PS I hope that some of the children present on that evening, themselves go on to be future political representatives of the calibre of Ron Jones’
